Director of Operations & Member Services (CEO-Track)


Position Summary

 
The Director of Operations & Member Services serves as the primary day-to-day leader of the Chamber’s operations, membership services, programs, marketing, and community relations. This position is intentionally structured as a CEO-track role, with the expectation that the individual will assume the Chief Executive Officer position upon Board approval and demonstrated readiness.
 
The Director reports to the CEO Supervisor, who retains responsibility for financial management, accounting, payroll, budgeting, audits, tax filings, and fiduciary compliance. The Director works closely with the Board of Directors, Chamber members, volunteers, and community partners to advance the mission and strategic goals of the Chamber.

Reporting Structure

  • Works in coordination with: Board of Directors
  • Supervises: Chamber staff, contractors, and volunteers as assigned

Core Responsibilities

 

Member Services & Engagement

  • Promote member businesses and encourage participation in Chamber programs
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain members, including “First Dollar” presentations
  • Maintain regular contact with members and committees and communicate feedback to leadership
  • Prepare and distribute weekly event emails and monthly newsletters
  • Maintain accurate membership records and databases
  • Prepare membership and inquiry reports for Board meetings
 

Operations & Administration

  • Manage daily Chamber office operations and ensure consistent public-facing hours
  • Oversee administrative systems, permanent records, and document retention
  • Purchase office supplies and equipment and establish maintenance schedules
  • Coordinate front-desk, phone, mail, and visitor services
  • Ensure efficient operation of Chamber facilities and an “attractive front door” for members and visitors
 

Marketing, Communications & Tourism

  • Develop and implement annual marketing and communications plans
  • Maintain and update the Chamber website, community calendar, and social media channels
  • Create and coordinate marketing materials, advertisements, and promotions
  • Coordinate tourism-related publications and visitor information
  • Maintain brochure racks, travel guides, and promotional inventory
 

Programs, Events & Grants

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute Chamber events and programs
  • Develop marketing and promotional plans for events
  • Coordinate volunteers, sponsors, donations, and in-kind support
  • Assist in grant preparation, administration, and reporting in coordination with the CEO Supervisor
  • Conduct post-event follow-up, reporting, and documentation
 

Community & Economic Development

  • Represent the Chamber at community meetings, public functions, and events
  • Maintain relationships with local, county, state, and regional economic development organizations
  • Assist with business recruitment, relocation, and expansion efforts
  • Maintain business resource materials and information for entrepreneurs and new businesses
 

Personnel & Leadership Development

  • Supervise assigned staff and volunteers in accordance with Board policy
  • Assist in training, performance feedback, and professional development
  • Support a positive, professional, and service-oriented workplace culture

CEO-Track Development

 
This position is intended to develop into the Chief Executive Officer role. As competencies are demonstrated and subject to Board approval, responsibilities may expand to include broader strategic leadership, policy implementation, and organizational representation, excluding financial oversight unless otherwise authorized by the Board.

Qualifications

  • Experience in nonprofit management, chamber operations, membership organizations, or related fields
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage programs, events, and community relationships
  • Marketing, communications, and digital proficiency
  • Leadership potential with a commitment to professional growth

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time, at-will position
  • Work schedule may include evenings and weekends as required for events and meetings
  • Hourly with potential for Salary, PTO, and leave policies as approved by the Board and outlined in Employee Policies and Procedures
  • Performance reviewed semi-annually by the CEO Supervisor and Board.
