Bob Herring served as an officer in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was assigned to the Military Assistance Command Vietnam (MACV) Team 2 in I Corps. It was an American Unit that was assigned to the South Vietnamese Army also known as the Army of the Republic Vietnam (ARVN). He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment, 2nd ARVN Division. Herring spent all but two months of his active duty time in this unit. His last two months, he served as a G3 Tactical Operations Center Watch Officer. Herring served through 1971.The Vietnam War ended April 30, 1975.
On Feb. 3, Herring will share some of his experiences during that time during Tuesday Talks at the Platte Valley Community Center White Room.
Herring is a charter member of the Upper Platte Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6125. His parents, Bob (H.R.) Herring and Bobbie Herring were World War II veterans
